St. Michael’s Vestry

Pam Pieters, Senior Warden

Pam began her role as Senior Warden in the spring of 2009 at the same time that she began her first term on the vestry. She accepted gladly after Clare Stokes, past Senior Warden, assured her it didn’t entail ALL the roles that Clare performed, but that it simply required being a friend to the priest-in-charge: “The friendship is the icing on the slightly fuller position of Senior Warden.” Pam and Brendan Pieters walked into a small Episcopal church (St. Bartholomew’s in High Springs) in June 2004, shortly after they were married, and immediately felt at home. Pam is a graphic artist for Santa Fe College and brings not only that competence and a love of the church to her service on the vestry, but enthusiasm, joy and the ability to remain calm in the face of adversity (see photo).  A cyclist, white water rafter, and runner, she also participates in our weekly Bible study and brings her expertise and love of gardening to our parish.

David Bushell, Junior Warden

Peter and his wife Ginny were members of St Michael’s back when the church was built over fifty years ago, and he was teaching history at the University of Florida.  They later transferred—in fact for several years were living in Arizona—but when they returned to Gainesville they had no problem choosing St. Michael’s again as their church family. The music was a strong attraction; also they liked the challenge of coming on board to help build the congregation back up after all the problems it had faced.  He says that he would like to be a “Matthew 25 Christian” (even while hoping that what Jesus said there about eternal fire for some folks need not be taken too literally).  A regular at our Wednesday night Holy Eucharist and Bible study, and is the vestry liaison to the St. Michael's Episcpal Church Day School.  David does a marvelous job as our Junior Warden!

Martha Willis, Treasurer

When Martha first attended St. Michael’s, the Church had not been built and  Sunday services were in the Parish Hall.  When the Church was built, the members of the congregation took part in making the rose window.  The rose window is very important to Martha.   At the start, each section of the window had clear glass in it.  Martha remembers that before the floor and pews were installed, she and other parishioners placed each section of the window on saw horses in the Church.   She remembers using a pattern placed under the glass,  gluing the colored glass onto the clear glass, putting the sections together and then placing the window in place!  She is still moved in being a part of the creation of the lovely stained glass window and the building ofour beautiful Church. After doing other things for awhile, Martha returned to St. Michael’s in 2007 and presently serves as Treasurer and a Vestry Member.  Martha is semi-retired and likes to read, swi and enjoy her grandchildren.

Donna Ross Miller

Born in Huntington Indiana, mother of four boys, fashion model and actress, Donna grew up in Orlando.  Married to Gary Miller for over 30 years, the merger netted eight children.  After moving to Gainesville, she continued acting, adding script writing, artistic directing to her array of experience.  Donna recently retired after seven years as a victim advocate for domestic violence with Peaceful Paths.  Donna has been a part of the Episcopal church since 1970, and has served as choir member, and vestry person. She attended Cursillo # 12 in the diocese of Central Florida Diocese in 1978 and reports,  “This was truly one of the deepest Christian experiences of my life.” A 20-year member of the Daughters of the King, she moved to St. Michael’s in 2007.

Constance Keeton

Constance is on the vestry and also serves as the vestry clerk. She is a member of the Daughters of the King and works as a Volunteer Coordinator at a local hospital. She has a great sense of humor and rumor has it that she is pretty good on the golf course!

B.J. began her term on the vestry recently and also serves as an usher. She is a Husker fan and is also quite a golfer!
